Level 2 - Intro to Classical Arabic - Fil and Foundational Sarf - with Ust. Fuseina Mohammad
This course offers students a comprehensive exploration of two crucial subjects in Classical Arabic: the Fi'l and Sarf (Morphology). Fi'ls (often called verbs) form the backbone of Arabic language structure, playing a crucial role in communication, expression, and comprehension. This course provides students with a systematic study of fi'ls, including past tense and present tense, fi'l conjugation, actives and passives, and fi'l usage in various linguistic contexts. Sarf refers to the structure and form of words in Classical Arabic. Understanding sarf is essential for anyone seeking proficiency in Classical Arabic and a deeper comprehension of the Quran and traditional Islamic texts. The morphology of Arabic words plays a crucial role in conveying precise meanings and nuances. Through a systematic study of sarf, students will gain an understanding of the intricate patterns and rules governing the formation of isms and fi'ls, thereby enabling them to decipher unfamiliar vocabulary and appreciate the linguistic richness of the text. The Sarf portion will cover topics such as roots and patterns, derivation, the different forms of isms and fi'ls, and how to use Classical Arabic dictionaries.
