Abdullah bin Mas'ud (radiAllāhu anhu) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: "[Whoever recites a letter] from Allah's Book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter." [At-Tirmidhi]
This is a complete beginner’s level course for adults to learn how to recognize and read the Arabic alphabet. In this course students will learn how to:
- Learn to pronounce each Arabic letter from its correct articulation point
- Learn to recognize each Arabic letter in its initial, medial and final shape in a word
- Learn the short and long vowels in Arabic and how to read them in conjunction with a consonantal letter
- Learn to read the statements of ta’awwudh and basmalah at the onset of reciting the Qur’an
- Learn to read opening chapter of the Quran (Al-Fatihah), the last three chapters (Al-Ikhlaas, Al-Falaq and An-Naas), and the most powerful verse in the Quran: Ayat al-Kursi
After finishing this course, students will be able to recite the Qur'an on a basic, beginner's level.
Prerequisite(s): A strong desire to learn how to recite the Qur'an as the Prophet ﷺ recited. Student must be 14 years of age or older.
