Aisha (radiAllāhu anha) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said ‘Verily the one who recites the Qur’an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels.’ [Al-Bukhari]

In this advanced level capstone course students will be studying the famous poem of tajweed, ‘Al-Jazariyyah’ by the prominent 14th century scholar of qira'āt: Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Ali Ibn Yusuf Ibn Al-Jazari. Students will review the fundamental rules of tajweed theory by going through a detailed explanation of the poem. Additionally, students will spend time during class perfecting their own recitation and application of the rules of tajweed. 

After finishing this course, dedicated students will have a firm understanding of this famous poem. Students who additionally master the memorization of the poem will be eligible for an ijazah/certification to teach the poem to others.

Prerequisite(s): Students should have a strong desire to master the recitation of the Qur'an as the Prophet ﷺ recited. Students should have previously studied advanced tajweed topics. Students are expected to have mastered the articulation points (makhaarij) and characteristics (sifaat) of the Arabic letters, rules of noon sākinah and tanween, mudood/lenthenings, tafkheem and tarqeeq, meeting of two letters, the connecting hamzah, waqf & ibtida', stopping on the ends of words with pure sukoon, rawm and ishmam. Students must be female of 14 years of age or older.
