Tazkiyah (Purification of the Heart)

One-day in person seminar with Sh. Dr. Haifaa Younis

Join us in collaboration with the Muslim Student Association (MSA) at the University of Washington Seattle on Saturday, October 5th.
(Open to Brothers and Sisters)

We spend so much time pursuing our worldly desires that we often forget our souls have a right over us too. It is our duty to nurture and purify our souls because if we don’t, we risk loosing the wellbeing of our body, mind and spirit. As mentioned in Bukhari and Muslim, “Truly in the body there is a morsel of flesh, which, if it be whole, all the body is whole, and which, if it is diseased, all of [the body] is diseased. Truly, it is the heart.”  A clean and pure heart is one free from spiritual disease. A soul that is blemished with disease cannot absorb the essence of knowledge bestowed upon us by our Lord. And so, the soul remains deprived of being able to perform good and righteous deeds rewarded by Allah. Good deeds and good character are manifestations of a purified soul. Hence, purifying the heart is paramount to our success in this life and hereafter. Allah swt says: “Indeed the successful one is one who purifies his / her soul, and doomed is the one who corrupts it.” [Q. 91:9-10].
